Not everybody that visits the Whitsundays is inclined towards the maritime. There are plenty of land based activities available to you, from one of the best resort Golf Courses in Australia. From the excellent Wildlife Park to visits of the Conway National Park. There is also tennis and a nice friendly bowls club (darts, pool, bingo, night-bowls for novices). The Whitsunday region is rich in its diversity and should not be missed.

Golf:
For the golf lovers there is a wide choice of courses from a small, but developing Royal Orchid course just outside of Airlie Beach, the Proserpine course some 20 mintues away to one of the best resort courses in Australia at Laguna Quays Resort some 40 minutes away. Golf

Wildlife Park:
Wildlife park The Whitsunday Wildlife Park is one to remember especially for the kids. The facility is an excellent tourist attraction allowing visitors to see many of the "local residents" up close and even handle some of the not so ferocious or dangerous inhabitants.

Conway National Park:

Lying between the Whitsunday Islands and the towns of Airlie Beach and Proserpine & surrounded by sugar cane & cattle properties is the 24,000 hectares of the Conway National Park with a further 25,000 hectares of State Forest. This area encompasses lush rainforest and beautiful waterfalls. Guided tours take visitors on an informative walk pointing out such specimens as giant strangler figs, various fungi, ferns and orchids. The Hinterland includes sugar cane & cattle properties, plus the Conway National Park & State Forest, which contains one of the world's oldest Tropical Rainforests, and is home to some unique flora & fauna. Some self-drive tours, to half & full-day. National Park bush and rainforest walking tracks - A 3 day, 2 night "great walks of thw world" is due to open in 2004.

The Proserpine River Wetlands - home of the infamous saltwater crocodile and many species of tropical bird and plant life. Full day eco-tours available, some self-drive tours, with National Park bush and rainforest walking tracks.

Cedar Creek Falls:
Cedar Creek Falls These falls ar emost spectacular during the "wet season" (November - February") Self drive OR half day tours depart Airlie Beach for the falls together with Aussie BBQ and rainforest tour. Make sure that you bring appropriate foot wear.

Airlie Beach Dining:

Life is pretty relaxed here in the tropics, so 'dressing for dinner' means (for men) a collared shirt (no ties!), a pair of smart shorts with closed in shoes - long pants if it's a special occasion.
We have French, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Thai and Japanese restaurantes, plus some excellent Australian fine-dining venues some with European influenced chefs.
Add to this several standards of tavern, bistro, club and pub meals, a Kebab place, several 'takeaway' burger places, fish 'n' chips, pizza, KFC & McDonalds, and you'll understand why it's difficult to go hungry here...
